Various- House of Cards Season 01-02

#1.1-Chapter 1

  • There are two kinds of pain. The sort of pain that makes you strong, or useless pain. The sort of pain that's only suffering. I have no patience for useless things.
  • The nature of promises, Linda, is that they remain immune to changing circumstances.
  • Forward! That is the battle cry. Leave ideology to the armchair generals. It does me no good.

#1.2-Chapter 2

  • When the tits are big, they all stand in line.
  • Such a waste of talent. He chose money over power. In this town, a mistake nearly everyone makes. Money is the Mc-mansion in Sarasota that starts falling apart after 10 years. Power is the old stone building that stands for centuries. I cannot respect someone who doesn't see the difference.
  • You don't get a second chance at a first impression.
  • What a martyr craves more than anything is a sword to fall on. So, you sharpen the blade, hold it at just the right angle, and then three, two, one...
SAHNE: Parlamento binası önünde eve giderken bağırdığını gördüğü evsize Frank'ın tavsiyesi.

#1.3-Chapter 3

  • What you have to understand about my people is that they are a noble people. Humility is their form of pride. It is their strength; it is their weakness. And if you can humble yourself before them they will do anything you ask.
  • You don't want to work anywhere you're not willing to get fired from, Zoe. Treading water is the same as drowning, for people like you and me.
SAHNE: Frank UnderWood'un kilisede konuşması.

#1.5-Chapter 5

  • Friends make the worst enemies.

#1.6-Chapter 6

  • Not an easy thing to say no to the most powerful man in the free world. But sometimes the only way to gain your superiors respect is to defy him.
  • From this moment on you are a rock. You absorb nothing, you saying nothing, and nothing breaks you.

#1.7-Chapter 7

  • Generosity is its own form of power.
  • It's the number of days since April 4, 1999. As of this morning, that's 5,185. The bigger that number gets, the more it frightens me, because I know all it takes is one drink to go back to zero. Most people see fear as a weakness. It can be. Sometimes for my job, I have to put fear in other people. I know that's not right. But if I'm honest, like the fourth step asks us to be, I have to be ruthless, because failure is not an option. The same goes for my sobriety. I have to be ruthless with myself. I have to use my fear. It makes me stronger. Like everyone in this room, I can't control who I am. But I can control the zero. Fuck the zero.
  • There's no better way to over power a trickle of doubt then with a flood of naked truth.
SAHNE: Jim Matthews'in Başkan koltuğuna oturma hevesini tatmin edişi.

#1.8-Chapter 8

  • How quickly poor grades are forgotten in the shadow of power and wealth.

#1.9-Chapter 9

  • Proximity to power deludes some into thinking they wield it.
  • A great man once said, everything is about sex. Except sex. Sex is about power.

#1.11-Chapter 11

  • Once someone is exposed, they're at your mercy.

#1.12-Chapter 12

  • Decisions based on emotion aren't decisions, at all. They're instincts. Which can be of value. The rational and the irrational complement each other. Individually they're far less powerful.
  • This is a man who's builts his fortune from nothing. The money doesn't mean anything to him. It is what it represents. [Which is] his life work.
  • Tusk understands the difference between power and money. That’s precisely what makes him dangerous. He doesn’t measure his wealth in private jets, but purchased souls.

#1.13-Chapter 13

  • There is no solace above or below. Only us - small, solitary, striving, battling one another. I pray to myself, for myself.
  • You can't purchase loyalty Raymond.

#2.1-Chapter 14

  • Did you think that I'd forgotten you? Perhaps you hoped I had. Don't waste a breath mourning Miss Barnes, every kitten grows up to be a cat. They seem so harmless at first. Small, quiet, lapping up their saucer of milk. But once their claws get long enough, they draw blood. Sometimes from the hand that feeds them. For those of us climbing to the top of the food chain, there can be no mercy. There is but one rule: Hunt or be hunted.

#2.2-Chapter 15

  • If you don't like how the table is set, turn over the table.
  • Grief demands an answer, but sometimes there isn't one.

#2.4-Chapter 17

  • To improve is to change. To perfect is to change often.
  • If we never did anything we shouldn't do, we'd never feel good about doing the things we should.

#2.5-Chapter 18

  • Avoid wars you can't win, and never raise your flag for an asinine cause like slavery.
  • There is no sacred ground for the conquered.

#2.9-Chapter 22

  • The road to power is paved with hypocrisy. And casualties. Never regret.

#2.10-Chapter 23

  • It's not beginning the story that I fear, it's not knowing how it will end.

#2.11-Chapter 24

  • The heart can choke the mind when all its blood flows back unto itself.
